Our story

Meadows of Meschio, for three generations the farm of the Balbinot family.

The company, founded in the 1950s by Giovanni Balbinot and then carried out by his son Luigi flanked by his brothers Antonia (called Sissi) and Paolo, initially focussed on wine production. In the 1970s she expanded her business, moving towards beef cattle breeding, and later, in the 1990s, she specialised in pig breeding. Starting from the 2000s, thanks to the growing popularity of Prosecco, the winemaking activity has resumed a central role, with the installation of new vineyards in the countryside of Vittorio Veneto, consolidating the company’s link with the territory and the winemaking tradition.

Four cousins,
a common vision

Today the Prati di Meschio farm is led by the third generation. Four Balbinot cousins united by a common vision: Enhance the authentic and genuine flavours of the Venetian tradition, promote technological innovation to improve production processes and ensure environmental sustainability, thus ensuring a future for their activity and territory.

The commitment to innovation was already materialised in 2000, with the installation of an advanced photovoltaic system on the roofs of the stables. This system has made it possible to optimise agricultural operations, modernising the vineyard irrigation system. Using new electric pumps and a drip irrigation system that takes advantage of the water of the Meschio River, the company has managed not only to reduce water consumption, but also to improve the quality and safety of work in the fields.

A Physicist
in the “Field”

The mission of the Prati di Meschio company is rooted in the enhancement of the Venetian agricultural tradition, with a constant attention to innovation and sustainability.

The founder’s grandson of the same name, Giovanni Balbinot, company manager and training physicist, perfectly embodies this mission.
Thanks to the previous experience of physicist at CERN in Geneva and the new technical skills acquired, he applies scientific knowledge to agriculture, exploiting modern energy plants and cutting-edge technologies to improve the efficiency of the processing, leading the company to look to the future in a sustainable and innovative way.

An innovative and qualitative production

What began as a family tradition, today is a reality that brings our genuine and artisanal products directly to your tables.

From the mid-10s, production began for the sale to the public of what until then had been produced only for family use: cold cuts and wine. A stable has been converted to be able to raise about fifty pigs in a very large space and with straw on the ground in order to improve animal welfare and therefore the quality of the meat.

Another stable has been transformed into a laboratory for meat processing with seasoning salt and a warehouse for ageing wine, everything is maintained at low temperature with modern photovoltaic energy systems. The vinification is carried out at local companies specialised in the processing of Prosecco.
